Our objective was to hike up Chiwaukum Creek, camp at Chiwaukum Lake and then visit Larch Lake. We failed due to extensive dead-fall following the fires about 5 years ago. The trail has been cleared as far as the first creek crossing and the 1591/1571 trail connection. But from there, there has been no work on trail 1591 and the dead-fall was horrific. Eventually we lost the trail and had to turn back.
For all but the most determined, the access to Chiwaukum and Larch Lakes by this route is closed at present.

This is a horrible trail even with a day pack let alone and over nighter. With the number of downed trees and more to fall this winter it's going to be some time before it's cleared.
