The road from the highway was not bad for the most part, some sections with potholes and washboard.
Bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer for the restrooms. None is supplied.
Hubby and I got a REALLY late start, 1:30 pm, so hiked only a portion of the trail. We turned right at the 1st junction. We did not make it to open views of Mount Baker and Shuksan, or to the blueberries. We probably weren't too far in distance and time, but early on in the hike I had somewhat twisted a knee and foot, so we turned around at 4pm. We knew it would take a while to get down to the trailhead.
This out and back on the trail still had much rewards. A couple short sections of the trail are root walks, but most of the trail is very nice indeed. The altitude gain is steady, but we were able to talk easily as we hiked, one indication that it is aerobic exercise. The forest is truly beautiful, water sounds were lovely, all was so quiet and peaceful, and the variety of mushrooms impressive.
