Gravel road to the trailhead was manageable. A couple of deep potholes but could maneuver around them.
As a plus size person who has been out of the hiking game for a year, this hike was not that bad. Thigh buster for sure but the view was well worth it. I brought my 7 year old daughter with me, who made it all the way up and back down on her own with very few breaks. I considered turning around at the first view point, which was an amazing view. But we kept going to the top. The view was amazing! The scramble up the rock was a little bit of a challenge for my 7yo but she managed well. There were so many bugs at the top where the lookout is, I could barely pause to take a quick picture. Bugs were swarming that area. But there were plenty of other spots to see the beautiful panorama of Mt rainier and Mt. Adams.
