Trip Report

Salmo-Priest Loop — Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024

Eastern Washington > Selkirk Range

**Lost Leki hiking poles at the trailhead. Please let me know if you saw or grabbed them. Thank you!**

We were planning to take more time and arrived in the area on Friday, but due to the storm and pouring rain, we didn't launch until Sunday for a 3day/2night venture.

We went clockwise. We didn't see anywhere to camp after 6.5miles until 9miles in. The potential for campsites around 8.2 miles with the last water source that was alluded to in several guidebooks did not materialize for us, so we wound up doing a dry camp at 9 miles in, right below Snowy Top. Stunning views and plenty of other campsites up there. Glad we brought the dromedary to run down and grab water 0.5 miles back down the trail.

Our second day was leisurely and sunny and we enjoyed the ridgeline walking and Little Snowy Top. We weren't sure about water at the campsite shortly after Hughes Ridge (shortly after where the PNT leaves the Shedroof Divide and heads further into Idaho), since it didn't sound 100% in guidebooks and we had struck out the night before--but there was plenty to pump!

Day Three it started to pour early morning and we arrived back at the car absolutely soaked but happy!

There were 4 cars in the parking lot when we arrived, but we didn't see any humans or other mammals the entire time. Parking lot was empty when we returned.

Someone, likely ahead of us, had entered in the log upon his return that he had to put out a campfire someone had left behind. Really disappointing that someone just left a fire to burn in this beautiful wilderness, but grateful to this good samaritan for protecting it.
