Deadwood Lakes — Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Lakes from Deadwood Saddle

Nice little overnight at Deadwood Lakes. Got my Cross Country permit from the White River WIC and was on trail by 5:30 pm.

Junction off the PCT is 0.4 miles from the Sheep Lake Trailhead. Trail is faint and difficult to follow in places, particularly past the saddle and down near the lakes. Tread lightly. There are no switchbacks and some steep sections.

Berries were ripe and abundant and the fish were biting. Found a nice little camp spot on the far end of the lower lake, but sadly found broken glass there. I packed out as much as I could find, but really wish the people who broke it would’ve cleaned up after themselves.

Probably would be a good swim the next few days with the warm temps coming up, but it hadn’t quite gotten warm enough during my visit for me to want to dive in.

I’ve got this at approx. 2 miles each way.
