Started from Sunrise parking lot about 9:45. Cloudy day with no mountain views.
Trail in good condition. Saw one mountain goat along the trail of Sourdough Ridge. Started down the trail of Huckleberry Creek towards Forest Lake Camp. Less than a mile down the trail saw a young bear slowly grazing up the ridge, he was on the trail and when he got with 20 feet we called out "Hey Bear" and then he seemed to notice our group and he ambled away from the trail.
The trail is steep and rocky as it descended from Sourdough Ridge and along the trail the plants need some trimming. The flowers are still blooming although past their peak. The trees that were piled over the trail from an avalanche at least two years ago have now been cleared away from the trail.
This trail is not popular so very few people are on the trail so it is quite peaceful. The downside is one descends down to the Forest Lake campground and then you have to climb out of this area back up to the ridge to return to the parking lot.
Even though the mountain was covered by clouds today, seeing the Bear and the goats made it a great day at MRNP.
