Skagit River Loop Trail — Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Skagit River

Hike number five today. This trail is located on the backside of The North Cascades Visitor Center off Highway 20. There is a little sign that say River Loop Trail. The nicer signs are found along the trail. A few feet in from the beginning of this trail starts off with a gradual downhill then levels off for the rest of the loop until you head backup to the same hill to the parking lot. This hike is all in the forest and one quarter of it is along the Skagit River so come prepared if its hot and you want to take a dip. Be careful if the river is running strong as it is Glacier Water and hyperthermia can set in within 30 minutes even if the outside temperature is in the 80's. I just take along a microfiber towel to cool off my head. This trail goes through a section of burnt forest from a previous fire so this section has minimal shade. Please ensure you take plenty of water and rest on all the benches supplied as needed. As always get out and see this beautiful state and enjoy your hiking!
