Took an impromptu trip to Wallace State Park and the plan was to hike to Wallace Lake and back. Until I realized there was a Jay Lake, then I had to go there too... The trail is in good condition and the weather was great. I arrived at 7:15 am to a 1/4 full lot but saw only a few people on the way out. I had most of the trail to myself then and was alone on the way to Jay Lake. I guess I wasn't fully alone... On the way out at the north side of Wallace Lake a woman stopped me and asked if I came from Jay Lake and if I saw the bear on my way out. To my disappointment, I did not. She saw it heading to where I was but it ran off at the site of her. So it was behind me on the trail. I was thinking on the way up there too that this would be the prime location to see one and was looking around. My bad luck... Other than missing the bear and then coming back to the falls area where the trails were packed with tourists and coeds, it was. A great morning hike! Would recommend going (early).
