We took a two-day trip to Lunch Counter (Day #1) and then Mount Adams summit (Day #2). We started hiking about 9:00 a.m. on day #1 and got to Lunch Counter at about 1:30 p.m. The snow was pretty slushy by that time, but we did fine with just our winter boots and trekking poles. Plenty of spots to set up camp, so we opted for one of the higher sites. We were able to filter snow melt for water, but had to use the eagle scouts in the group to create a damn of sorts. Started up at 4:00 a.m. on Day #2 for the summit push. We had perfect trail conditions. All the snow had frozen overnight which made going up with crampons and an ice ax perfect.
Got to the summit at about 7:30 a.m. with Mount Rainier, Mount Saint Helens, Mount Hood and the Three Sisters all in full glory. We were even able to spot Mount Baker to the north. We then glissaded down, which was perhaps against better judgment, as the glissade tracks were still pretty icy and made for a quick slide. Overall a great trip!
