Upper Lena Lake — Saturday, Jul. 6, 2024

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Mt Bretherton from Upper Lena Lake

We had camped at Lena Lake for the weekend, summitting The Brothers on July 5. This was our 'rest day' which made the steep ascent to Upper Lena a bit of a tired slog. And worth it. What a gorgeous lake.

The trail is in great condition and wild flowers were plentiful on the upper slopes. We met many groups coming down who turned around as the trail's grade increased having been short on time or water. We only saw 6 people around the lake that afternoon.

We initially planted ourselves at the base of the lake and quickly realized we were in prime mosquito territory. They were swarming. We picked up and made our way around the right side of the lake, across to the little Pennisula and were able to enjoy a lovely couple of hours with far fewer mosquitos. The crystal clear lake was wonderful for a quick dip on this hot hot day and the views of Bretherton and Lena Peak were lovely.  The trip back to camp was fast and fun. Highly recommend.
