Packwood Lake — Saturday, Jun. 15, 2024

South Cascades > Goat Rocks
Rainy conditions = complete solitude

Opted for one of the best spring season overnights in Washington and it didn't disappoint. The rain was cascading down all morning on our drive to the little town of Packwood and I had hopes that would deter lots of folks from venturing out.

I was right! Trailhead has practically empty up on arrival at 12:30pm. We passed three parties on trail (just day hiking) and had the lake completely to ourselves. The rain continued all days d into the night, but we came prepared with a tarp to hang out under.

You could see the snow line at around 3500 feet and we new we were in for a chilly night. But good gear bests even the worst weather and we slept great.

The sun made an appearance on Sunday and we passed lots of days hikers on our way out. A bunch of the drier water sources on trail were trickling, so don't fear about not finding water while hiking.

Trail is in prime spring condition; no blow downs, a few wildflowers, and great grade. Perfect for kids, beginners, and anyone who wants an easy overnight getaway 💜
