I was part of the recent WTA BCRT clearing the majority of the downed logs from the trail up to Mackinaw Shelter. A few remain in the first couple miles but are passable. Otherwise the trail is in great shape. I was very pleased with the relatively consistent grade the entire way.
When we returned June 9th the Barlow Pass gate had opened up so you are now able to approach from either side of the mountain loop. The approach on FR 49 is very rough. I recommend an SUV although its not strictly required, as well as taking it slow.
Definitely want to return and explore more of the trail in the future.
