I hiked up Mailbox this morning via the old trail, then returned via the new trail. It was my first time hiking there. Everything was in great condition. There was very little mud and it was dry with great traction. I had no problems with routefinding while ascending the old trail, although it does branch into separate "threads" which converge back to the main route.
I thought descending the new trail would be easier and faster, but the descent took longer (2:05) than my ascent on the old trail (1:50). The new trail wound around with many flat spots and seemed to take forever to lose elevation sometimes. So next time I'm definitely sticking to the old trail for the ascent and descent and see how my time compares.

None! Not a flake (or whatever it is you call a small piece of summer snow).
