Trip Report

Mount Baldy, Thomas Mountain — Friday, May. 31, 2024

Snoqualmie Region > Cle Elum Area
Cle Elum Lake and the Stuarts from Mount Baldy

I had set my sights on the Kachess Ridge Loop, counter-clockwise starting with Para Point and the side trek to Baldy, then north to the French Peaks, and back south with a possible side trek to Kachess Beacon before descending back to the parking lot. Alas, while there were only about a dozen very minor snow patches to navigate between Para Point and Mount Baldy, everything north of Para Point from there to Thomas Mountain was snow 12-18" deep, which made for very slow going. Turning around at Thomas was the right call, but it isn't worth it to go anywhere north of Para Point. Baldy was a reward in itself, though, even if I didn't get to do the entire 16-mile loop. Another day!

Silver Creek Falls from the plateau just after the split with the Easton Ridge Trail
Rainier, along with Adams and the Goat Rocks, from Mount Baldy
Snow just below the summit of Thomas Mountain. The entire way from Para Point to Thomas (and assumedly beyond) was like this
