Beautiful hike! We tried to make to the second lake but were unsuccessful. The hike to the first lake is about 1.5 miles in and completely snow free. We attempted the second lake and were about 4 miles in (total) and had to stop. Right before the second lake the snow comes out of nowhere. There will be one large patch you have to cross, and then once you turn the corner it is endless snow. Pretty compact snow (though we did have a few incidents of stepping through and falling a bit). Between falling through the snow and losing the trail, we decided to turn around. Definitely worth it to go through to mile 4! We saw others continued, but with 3 dogs we didn’t want to risk it. Will be back to complete it when the snow is melted.
