We arrived at the trailhead a bit before 10 and got moving. There were a couple of cars at the trailhead and one that arrived as we were getting our gear sorted. The trail was dry and easy to follow and obviously someone has put in a bunch of work, cutting back the willow and other overgrowth. Thanks to you, whoever you are! There were a few, easy crossings of the creek to be made but all easy. The dreaded mosquito is waking up from a winter of slumber (or whatever they do) and there were a few buzzing about but no big, blood sucking clouds yet. There were lots of birds in the canyon and we heard at least 2 male grouse hooting. Hopefully they find love soon. Good luck! We even crossed paths with a couple of fat ground squirrels (I think)! Looks like they have stored plenty of acorns! Anyway, the trail is a tad rough in places, even washed out or nearly so. Not a big deal but it makes you pay attention to your footing occasionally. We didn't quite go to the 3 mile mark. Back issues are keeping us from going full speed or distance right now. It still was a nice hike full of blooming wildflowers and the birdsong was very pretty. It's a worth a revisit some time soon and we'll get up to the ridge for the view.
