We arrived at about 9a. Several cars in the lot, but not crowded. The last stretch of road to the trailhead was fairly potholed but there were a handful of FWD sedans that made it there. The trail was generally in decent condition considering the rain but was still pretty muddy in spots, particularly near the Maple Grove campsite. One down tree to climb over, but nothing else technical. Passed a handful of backpackers heading out while we were heading in and similar on the trip back out this morning.
About half the sites were occupied when we arrived at Maple Grove and they were all full by the afternoon. We shared our larger site with another pair of backpackers. Sites were well maintained with bear boxes available and tables at some of the sites. Plenty of trees for hammock campers, too. One covered and one uncovered toilet available, but no TP. Easy access to water, with several creeks flowing well along the way and one a few minutes from the campsite. The lake was also an option of course.
Not too many bugs and no ticks found on the humans or the dog. One bold deer walked right up to our site, but no other encounters.
All in all, a good, drizzly overnight. Great route for those new to backpacking.
