Pyramid Peak — Tuesday, May. 3, 2022

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Pyramid Peak summit

Ngie and I got up to Pyramid Peak this morning in the snow. We were going to start from the Pyramid Creek SnoPark and go straight up to Pechugh Peak and then over to Pyramid Peak, but after seeing that the gate was open on the Greenwater Road(NF-70), we thought we would try this way instead. It worked as we got to the peak

We were able to drive up to around 3600 ft, to where the road was all snow. We parked here and got started at 8:54 am. We walked the road for about 4.4 miles before we got to the base of Pyramid Peak, putting on our snowshoes on about 1/4 before this near the PCT. We found the trail sign for Pyramid Peak, but had a hard time following the trail, as it was hidden under 4 feet of snow. We zig zagged our way up the steep slope all the way to the summit. No views today whatsoever, at it was all fog. The summit looked to have some fantastic views.

On the way down we took a SE ridge to get us to an old road. This worked out quite nicely. So much better than going down the steep way we went up. Once we got down to this road we got a little sunshine, and some views toward the east of Clifty, Quartz, and Manastash.

We took our snowshoes off once back at the main road NF-7080, near the PCT, and walked back down to the car. We finished at 3:44 pm. Fun snowshoe even without the views!! 10.25 miles with 2552 ft gain
