Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop is a long, six-mile urban trail loop that follows alongside the shores of Lake Union, combining both natural park areas with the city environment of Seattle. The common place to start the hike is at the Gas Works Park, which was large open parking lots and accessible paved walking paths that connect with the trail loop. The trail itself, being mostly paved concrete throughout, is ideal for jogging and biking for a few miles through downtown Seattle and leads to many different parts of the city. Following the road and sidewalk signs of the urban trail, the walking path leads through under the tall Aurora bridge as well. The loop has a clear distinction between biking paths and pedestrian paths, with both trails being open and spacious to traverse. The loop provides many frequent views of the lake shore as it passes by the water, and various boats and birds can often been seen passing by the waters on sunny days.
Since the loop trail comes near many different urban areas of Seattle, it passes by various restaurants, parks, and locations of interest such as the Google buildings and museums. On the South side of the loop at the bottom edge of Lake Union is a moderately sized boat wharf, which has its own grass park areas to walk around and look at the lake - known as Lake Union Park. Throughout the daytime, the urban trail has many people walking along the loop as it is close of the populous regions of Seattle and its natural parks. The trail is usually bright during the spring, however it can still get cold and cloudy based on various times of the day. Since the loop is in close proximity to the city, wildlife and bugs are not present aside from the occasional geese on the trails.
