This "hiker's combo" was a nice way to have a 7-mile hike close to home in the middle of winter. We hiked the perimeter trail of Fort Ward Park, took the connector trail from Fort Ward to Blakely Harbor, hiked all the Blakely Park trails, and returned via the connector, adding a couple more parts of the Fort Ward network we'd missed earlier in the day. Total: 6.8 miles.

Fort Ward Park and Blakely Harbor Park were full of people, but hardly anyone was on the Fort Ward to Blakely Harbor connector -- we saw only one or two other people there.

Blakely Harbor Park has a wildlife blind beside the logging mill pond. The blind has a cool "rustic minimalist" style and it's worth stopping for a peek. We stopped and saw a seal lazily swimming around the pond.
