Arrived at 9:45an and there was only one other vehicle. To get here, you’ll have to drive down a 4 mile long, well maintained gravel road which I did in a Toyota Camry just fine FYI. Eventually, you turn right and drive on paved road again. The parking lot for this trail is the first turn off on your right. The trail will have a “no horseback riding” sign next to it.
Had the hike and dunes to myself. Trail is pretty straightforward until you get to the first sand hill. Trail disappears obviously, but that doesn’t matter if you don’t want to venture further. I recommend going to the farther north sand dune because it seemed “less traveled” on. I also recommend using Alltrails if you’re going to go farther because it’ll actually put you on a trail between the two dunes since people complain that they couldn’t find one.
Also, tiny flying bugs were EVERYWHERE on the way to the dunes. My arm simulated a windshield wiper. Non-stop waving of my bandana to get them out of my face for about 1 mile before I got to the sand.
Really cool to have a break from the constant rain and see a landscape that you wouldn’t normally think is in Washington. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience and “OK” hike.
