(Running)
I’ve been wanting to do a trail run at the Bennington lake facility for several years now since I work in Walla Walla much of the week(even though I live a few hours away).
Finally got the chance and the daylight to do it yesterday and it was not disappointed. This is a complement to the many amenities the Walla Walla area has to offer.
Trail system is easy to use and the terrain is not difficult. It has some rolling hills but the elevation changes aren’t very dramatic—a few hundred feet at best.
The goal was to sample as much of the area as possible and get one more double digit run in for the week. 10 miles was enough before it got too dark, and I was on just about every type of trail this place had to offer.
Whenever I check out a new trail my dilemma is whether to go with trail shoes or road shoes. The road shoes are much more comfortable for lengthy runs, but if I need the extra grip I go with a trail shoe.
Next time I run here I would have no problem doing it with the road shoes(Bondi vs Speedgoat) because the extra traction isn't really necessary.
However, if these were wet conditions I would definitely go with the trail shoe because it looks like it could get really slick in spots after a good dose of rain.
As a middle aged, somewhat busted up runner, I prefer trails with minimal tripping hazards such as large embedded rocks etc.
I only found one spot like this on a side bicycle trail on the opposite bank of the canal and I would say it's at least 50 yards of ankle rollers, but... most of it is smooth sailing with exception to places where the ruts get narrow.
People were friendly, courteous, and there is plenty of room for all types of users. Definitely will come back again.
