I left the Sunrise parking lot around 10:00 am with mostly clear skies except for smoky haze to the south. There were a surprising number of people at Sunrise for the day after Labor day. I hate to think how many people must have been there over the weekend. Once I reached the junction with the Huckleberry Creek trail though, I only saw a couple of hikers the rest of the way. A path has been cleared through the avalanche debris that was mentioned in previous trip reports. There are still a few snow patches in the debris field that can be slippery if they catch you unawares.
Forest Lake is a small but pretty lake. There was a tent at the campsite, but the occupants must have been out exploring. The only place that I noticed any bugs was at the lake, but even there they weren't bad. I ate lunch at the lake, and then headed back to sunrise.
I would recommend this hike, as much for the journey, as for the destination.
