Road up isnt too bad. A few potholes here and there but nothing to really be all that concerned about especially when compared to some of those on the mountain loop hwy.
Parking was surprisingly simple as we arrived at 10am this morning. Actually got to back into a nice spot not far from the privy and trail entrance. Speaking of privy ... pretty clean and had some TP when we stopped.
Trail is otherwise in excellent condition. Zero blow downs as they have all been cleared. Enjoyed the numerous different fungi along the way and as we arrived at the lake we found even more different species along the shorelines.
As for the lake it is way low right now. Compared to early spring or winter it is down 10-15' easily. So much the drainage is completely dry as shown in the pic below. We even walked out across the lake bed through the grass which can be seen in the alltrails map below. Where the red lines are is the current shorelines on both sides.
Lots of campers when we arrived and the hike to the lake we maybe saw 2-4 along the way. After lunch and heading back however it was a different story. Easily 30-40 people coming up, mostly looking like they were planning to over night so I am guessing it is fairly crowded up there this evening.
A few fishing it but didnt see anything caught. The water is still fairly deep towards the outlet side but it is fairly warm as well so the trout are most likely down deep.
Didnt have time but now planning on a jaunt up and over to Eagle creek on the next trip up as I can easily se the path from the lake bed. Wont be a cake walk but hey, that is why it is hiking, right? Anyhow, great day to be outside. Hope everyone is enjoying this labor day weekend.
Happy Trails.
