Did my first solo-hike in awhile, and chose Green Mountain in the Glacier Peak Wilderness.
Road along Suiattle River has a few potholes, but nothing serious. Mostly flat. Once you turn off for the Green Mountain Trailhead, it gets steep with bigger rocks and potholes. I made it up just fine in a Subaru Forester.
Once on the trail, there’s a few trees down along throughout the initial forested section, nothing hard to get over though. As you exit the forest and get into the meadows on the slopes, the trail is quite overgrown. Easy to follow, but long pants made this MUCH more enjoyable.
Bugs also start here, and will continue most of the way. Mostly flies, and while annoying, I didn’t have too much of an issue as long as I kept moving.
The only snow crossing left are minuscule, hiking boots are sufficient. As you pass the 2 small lakes, you are about 1 mile from the top.
The last mile is STEEP, roughly 1300 feet of gain by my calculations, and you are in the sun the whole time. Bring plenty of water, and food to replenish when you get to the top.
Views at the top are incredible, so many peaks I couldn’t count, even on a somewhat cloudy day. While difficult, this is a must-do!
