Bugs were the worst I've seen since summer in Alaska. I got up to the summit about an hour before sunset hoping to get photos, but only lasted half an hour before I couldn't take it anymore.
Holy buckets did they do a nice job on this trail. This may be the best trail I've ever hiked. Hats off to the Mt Rose Trail Crew!
When I got to the summit there was one mountain goat ahead of me and another behind me. So I gave them as much space as possible. A quick safety reminder on wild animals. They are wild. Give them their space. Remember, this is their home, you're just a guest. All photos were with a telephoto lens. Also, it helps to sing a little bit of Sweet Caroline—all mammals instinctively love Neil and it helps them understand that you're one of the good ones. But sing it softly, because, let's be honest, you're no Neil Diamond.

Beautiful photos! Maybe I'll add Neil to my playlist before I hit this hike.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll be back to take more photos on a night when the bugs aren't quite as bad.
