What a glorious hike! We started at the Bear Pasture trailhead: off Sullivan Creek Road, we took FR 2212 to 200. We clocked 4.3 miles from the trailhead to the peak. The road was rough, but manageable with our Subaru Crosstrek. (Thanks to the prepared citizen who went through and chainsawed the logs across the road! We appreciate it!)
Trail 515 was in good shape all the way to Crowell Ridge. From there, it’s a choose-your-own-adventure sort of hike: a little rocky scramble, some bushwhacking, a few faint boot trails, and an occasional cairn to guide your way. You can go up, over, or around any of the peaks along the ridge line, though you might find it easier to traverse across. Nothing too technical, but it’d be worth trekking with boots or durable trail runners— the rock-hopping can totally tear up your traction.
We didn’t see any bears this trip, but based on the status of the soon-to-be-ripe huckleberry crop, I wouldn’t be surprised if July hikers encountered some furry company.
Definitely pack bug-spray: the mosquitos were hungry.
