Had never heard of Lost Lake prior to finding a trip report from a few days ago, and we were looking for something not too far of a drive that wouldn’t have crowds, or snow this time of year. This hike checked all those boxes!
First, there are actually 2 pull-offs with gates right next to each other, one is the trailhead the other is private property. I’ve attached a picture of the correct gate, it is yellow.
We arrived at the trailhead at around 1:00pm, we were the only car. We didn’t see any other hikers the entire trip!
I clocked the distance on the road at 1.4 miles, not 1.5, but the start of the boot path was very obvious right before the right turn in the road.
The boot path is a bit overgrown in some places, but the trail is clear the whole way. Legs got scratched up a bit, long pants might save you from that.
Bugs were really just dragonfly’s, but there was a ton of them. Never seen that many on a hike before, so it was a bit of an annoyance but no bites or any issues.
Lake is beautiful, we were shocked at how clear the water was, and by the brand new looking dock at the shore. Saw a few small fish, and made sure to write our names on a slip of paper at the registration box.
On the way down we did see some deer, and a cool looking centipede. Mt. Pilchuck was visible from the road as we walked back down.
I clocked the total trip at 5.6 miles roundtrip and 827 feet of gain. If you’re looking for solitude and a neat lake to check out, this will be a great choice!
