I've hiked this trail several times, usually I don't go past Gillette Lake. Today, I decided to try the route suggested here, going past the lake until the bridge over Greenleaf Creek. I thought about going past that, but I got a late afternoon start, so decided I'd better leave it for another day.
Conditions were really pleasant, it was overcast and windy when I left for the hike, but the wind died down and the sun came out while I was on the trail. Trail in excellent condition, and I really only encountered bugs as I came out in the evening.
It's a very rocky trail, as others have said. Other than that, it's a nice, relaxing hike.
