Berthusen Park — Wednesday, Mar. 10, 2021

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area

Berthusen Park offer's up plenty of great opportunities to get outdoors and explore.  This beautiful park, the site of a homestead from the late 1800's,  has antique farm machinery, a historical cabin, a big red barn and a great playground with one of the best swing set's that I have experienced.

There are several great trails for you to check out.  This morning I did the Eagle Loop as well as the section of trail through the old growth forest (Wonder Trail). Eagle Loop will give you views of Bertrand Creek, evidence of a downy woodpecker, Indian Plum coming into bloom and you might even hear or spot the pair of Great Horned Owls that call the park their home.

The trails are in pretty good shape (at least when it hasn't rained recently) with a few a the problem area's, which are about to be address by WTA's awesome Trail Maintenance crews.  Check the schedule to see when you can help out.

I have found this to be a great place to bring kid's to give them a glimpse of the past, and get them ready for a future of exploring in the woods.
