Great short hike with the kids. Fresh air, green trees, cold water! The big tree was a bit of a disappointment, but the kids thought it was great. The bridge and access to the creek was far more interesting.
Trail condition: Damp. Muddy in places. Very passable. Half the kids wore tennis shoes, and did just fine (the van needs to be cleaned now :'(
The trail is steep in several places as it descends from the parking lot to the creek, and again up and over a hill to get to the big tree. Good knees recommended.
Highly recommend as a local hike - probably not worth a long commute to visit. Also would be a GREAT place to stretch your legs if you're doing a long drive to or from the NW coast area, as the trail is just a few minutes from the HWY, and no fee is required for parking/using the trail.
ACCESS NOTE: The access to the camp/trail head from the road is NOT marked well.... there is a small white and blue hanging sign at the road which is illegible while driving at the speed limit. I have included a Google Map picture of the driveway as seen if you are traveling north bound. We drove past the driveway twice before making a successful approach.
Happy Trails!
