Trip Report

Lake 22 - Winter — Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

I got there at 10am and there were two spots left. Trail is very wet and muddy. The tree blow down is right before the talus part of the trail. It's easy to get up for now but may get more difficult when it gets muddier. The slush starts right at the talus and I'd recommend microspikes, dont use snowshoes. You can make it up and down without microspikes but it's definitely useful for having to step around/step aside for other people.

Once I got to the tree line again it was snowing. I didn't walk around the lake because I saw tiny vertical snow movement on the other side of the lake (too tiny to be avalanche). Up and down in two and a half hours back to the full parking lot, but lots of people were leaving as new people were arriving for an afternoon hike.

Don't forget to stop and enjoy the old growth cedar grove. It is one of a kind and super old.
