Couple of navigation tips at start: the trail starts from the highest part of Lot 4, ie the 3rd tier. Then go past all the cabins (3-4?) and then there’s a Y, take the right.
Then it’s a maintained road, easy to the first Grace Lake you encounter. Spikes would be fine. It you want to go off road to more lakes then snowshoes will be highly useful.
At the “do not go beyond this point” sign, backtrack a bit and then head up off trail towards Hwy 2 for great views of the Pass and beyond.
If you go the opposite direction at the sign (ie left when facing the sign), head up to more lakes, and depending on how far you go you can also get views down to Summit Lake.
In all cases when going off the road don’t go anywhere close to any steep slopes/ drop offs/overhangs, the snow could be unstable. End of PSA! But you can still do some great exploring and get some very nice views, and see very few people if today is an accurate gauge.
