Just a review of Fern Cove - we didn't hike any trails here. Just parked the car here and walked to the right over a little bridge and a short muddy'ish trail to Fern Cove. Its a lovely peaceful beach and has a bench you can sit at.
We were lucky enough to see a few (seals/sea-lions? - not sure which) jumping up and down in the water. I think it was sea lions though as there were large flippers at the back that they kept thrashing into the water each time they jumped up.
You could do the couple of 2 mile'ish hikes on the other side of the road if you feel like hiking some more.
