Mount Townsend - Winter — Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

Beautiful day on the trail! Took the little Quilcene trail to Mt Townsend. Arrived around 9:30am on Saturday, no other cars, didn’t see anyone on the trail the entire hike. The road to the trail head was a bit seedy though only the last few miles to the trailhead. We drove a Subaru Outback and the way in was fine, the way out we were going 5mph and still skidding.

The fog rolled out as we arrived to the top of the mountain, blue skies opened up to a gorgeous panorama view of the peninsula’s mountains. Perfect place for lunch!

I used snow shoes, my partner used micro spikes. I should have gone with just micro spikes. There was snow on the trail but not enough to warrant snow shoes, and the spikes would have helped with the icy bits.

All in all a great hike!
