We had a beautiful cool, crisp, Autumn day to hike up Little Huckleberry Mountain. The road from the south through Willard was paved until the last two miles where the pavement ends and a decent gravel road takes over. The trailhead is not well marked from the road, but there is a small parking parking lot that can hold around 5 cars. No bathrooms and no fees. Overall the trail is in good shape. Two fallen trees have to be maneuvered over, and at times, the bare huckleberry shrubs encroach upon the trail. A great treat when the berries are ripe. At about 2 miles we passed Spring Camp which is also where the snow began to really cover the trail. At this point, hiking poles would be helpful as the trail becomes more slick. We reached the summit to find the season's first winter wonderland. The views were limited due to the overcast skies but the setting sun lit up the western sky. 5 miles round trip.
