Trip Report

War Creek — Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020

North Cascades > Methow/Sawtooth
view from Juanita Camp

This was part of a multi-day solo trip through the North Cascades.

Check out the full report here.

War Creek Trail-  This is a really great trail going through multiple burns with consistent elevation gain over 9ish miles from 1500-6600.  All ending at Juanita Lake and great views.  Awesome as a trail run.  Hit is late September/Early October for great Larch colors.

Two big things for this trail to be mindful of.

Water-  Yes there is the War Creek, but the trail never crosses it.  Mostly it's 30-40 yards away.  Can get to it with a small bushwhack.  The first easy water was mile 6/7.

Tree fall-  There is some significant burn/tree fall at mile 7/8.  Trail is still visible, but just be mindful and keep your bearings.  Definitely took some energy to get up/over/around.

Highly recommend this trail.  I then dropped down into Stehekin as the ender for the trip. Could easily do this as a 2-3 night out and back coming from the east side.

Summer sausage cornbread bowl
Tree fall at mile 7/8
Larches at mile 8/9
