Blue Lake — Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Frozen blue lake

Hiked 10/31… Beautiful day for a hike on Halloween! It was a brisk day in the mountains but felt amazing with the sun out and a little to no wind. As others have posted there is snow on the trail but on Saturday it was nice and compact and I was able to do the hike without the need of micro spikes, yak trax, or hiking poles. My dog also did just fine! Up around the lake you can get some more powder as the offshoot trails aren’t as compacted but I still didn’t need gaiters.  If you are a little bit worried about balance or slippery ice spots then I definitely recommend poles

I got to the trail head at 11:30 and there was probably nine other cars in the lot at that time. When I got back to the lot at 2 PM there was probably another six cars... Overall not too crowded for a beautiful fall Saturday!

Like others have posted it I only saw a couple larches but even those are starting to lose their leaves already :(

Definitely go before more snow comes and they close HWY 20!

What’s left of the larches
