Trip Report

Little Huckleberry Mountain — Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020

Southwest Washington > Columbia River Gorge - WA
Mt Adams

Tue 28Oct, i arrived at the Trailhead at ~12:45. ~1.5 hours up to the "Summit" .. ~30 minutes enjoying the beautiful views of Mt Adams, Mt Rainier, and Mt Saint Helens .. and also of Mt Hood OR. Lots of peaceful solitude in the forest .. sometimes i felt as if i was hearing the "sound of silence" .. :) .. Then ~1 hr back to the Trailhead. i noticed that i was the only person on the Trail during all this time.

Further to the recent reports by ptopdjian and Raptor41d, below is just an "update".

1) the Trail is still very good .. mostly soft dirt .. snow and ice free until ~2.4 miles from the Trailhead, where there was ~50 ft of thin ice on the trail .. it is passable, just tread carefully (probably, best with Trekking poles).

2) for the Trout Lake -to- Little Huckleberry Trailhead routing,

my guess is that ptopdjian and Raptor41d had taken/driven on the CORRECT route (cos they did not mention of any major potholes ridden roads).

i must have taken a wrong turn - got on to the ~4 miles of Forlorn Lakes Road which is major potholes ridden!! Very bad condition and where i spent ~45 minutes navigating my VW Tiguan very very s-l-o-w-l-y to avoid the potholes. At the same time, luckily for me, the ~4 miles of road was mostly dry so it wasn't too difficult to spot and avoid the potholes.

Anyway, getting to enjoy the views of Mt Adams, Mt Rainier, and Mt Saint Helens more than compensate for my "torturing" experience on the ~4 miles Forlorn Lakes Road .. :)
