Disclaimer: This was hiked two days before todays (10/23/20) snow event. Trail and weather conditions may be much different now. Be sure you check the forecast and road conditions before you go out and bring proper gear.
We arrived at the trailhead at 1pm just as all the new snow had just finished falling, which was about 4-5 inches at the trailhead. The trail was in great condition and with microspikes, we cruised to the lake with no problems. When you get near the top, you will go through what is left of the larches. We were lucky enough to see a decent amount still left, but they are disappearing quickly.
Once at the lake, we went up the Tarn Loop Trail which no one had been on since it snowed. We kicked in the trail which had around 10 inches of snow. Defiantly take this trail up to get some great views of the lake, 100% worth it!
Remember, there is a winter storm warning in effect today for a bunch of new snow. Check conditions before you go. At this very moment, it appears Saturday and Sunday are looking sunny and cold. First people out will have to kick in the trail as needed, but everyone else should be treated to blue skies and great views. Enjoy!
