Cutthroat Lakes via Walt Bailey Trail — Saturday, Sep. 5, 2020

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

The road is long and rough but only a few potholes.  Camry had no problem. Brush clearing looks complete except maybe at the very end?

Trail is loaded with blueberries so take a few empty tubs if you want to spend some time picking. The trail is also well maintained, it looks like there’s been clearing on it too this year, nice job!

We lunched at the upper lake with clouds rolling in and out (mostly in). We did not proceed to Bald Mountain as views would have been non-existent probably.

Wildlife seen included a grouse family, numerous creatures aquatic in the various pools and lakes, and a black bear with a GPS tracking collar or something like that, who also was enjoying the blueberries and blocked our path for a while before bounding off trail.

This is a hidden gem IMO; the destination is full of interest and the lakes are pretty.  There were only a few other vehicles at the TH and even fewer hikers seen on the trail.

we saw the same bear on Thursday. Cute lil bugger. Felt bad having to scare him out of his berry patch as he seemed to really be having the time of his life haha.
