We hiked from the Snowgrass Trailhead to the junction with the PCT. Forest Road 21 still has a lot of washboarding, it’s suitable for all cars, but if you have a sedan like mine it’s probably best to take it slow. We hiked it south to a bluff we’ve camped at before. Two of our party were just in for a day hike, so we set up camp and showed them to the Bypass trail 3/4 of a mile from our camp. We camped and hiked around Goat Rocks in 2017 during the terrible wildfires from Canada to California, I didn’t realize how bad conditions were until we realized we could see Mt. St. Helens from our camp above Snowgrass Flat this time. We could only stay one night, but had a little time to hike up the PCT North. We stopped at the bluff across from Goat Lake and turned around. Hiked the Bypass Trail out and were happy to see the Creek you have to cross has a decent amount of logs across it to help now.
It was of course another wonderful trip into Goat Rocks. I’d say 95% had some kind of face covering when we passed them, so folks are taking precautions. We were also pleasantly surprised by the lack of mosquitos and particularly biting flies (we’ve been eaten alive in years past), they were still present but weren’t much of an annoyance. Leaving Thursday you could see the parking lot starting to get fuller, so while we were almost along above Snowgrass Flat on the South end of the PCT, I’m sure it’s still as busy on the weekends as it always is.
