Lena Lake TH to junction with Brothers trail. Trail in good condition, dry. Lena Lake to Upper Lena Lake trail has a few downed trees, is wet, muddy, and slippery in spots. Full attention is required, and a hiking pole worked good for me. Roots, rocks, and grade increase last 2 miles to the lake basin. It's a beautiful subalpine basin, campsites 1-9 surround ULL, Rainbow trout abound.
After breakfast I wandered up the drainage above the campsite to the beautiful turquoise colored waters of Milk Lake. Exploring the tarns above the lake I spooked a bear to run across the meadow & dive into the brush. Peaceful and beautiful, the snow is almost gone in the basin.
The trail to Scout Lake Pass narrows and meanders uphill, from forested island, through meadows with tarns, grassy lakes to stunted forested island scattered all along the way to Scout Lake Pass. "The way is not hard". At the pass I continued down to Dearheart Lake and caught a couple of otters, repeatedly diving, surfacing & eating something. Lake levels are low, berry levels are off the charts.
