Just an overnight, but wanted to get a new report on the books since the last one is about 1 year old.
Total distance from US101 to the Oil City Trailhead on Oil City Road is about 10 miles. Almost the entire road is unpaved, but it's absolutely passable for any vehicle; I was on a dual-purpose motorcycle and my friend was on a sport motorcycle, and while we went slow, it never felt unsafe.
Trailhead has a good amount of parking and a classic state park outhouse.
Trail is roughly 1 mile long following the Hoh River west to the Pacific Ocean. Trail runs parallel to the river, and the majority of the time you are under canopy. We got to the trailhead relatively late in the day, so once we reached the ocean, we found a place to setup camp without walking any further north. There were two other small groups already setup when we got there.
There was plenty of water available at the mouth of the Hoh River, so you can fill up as you exit the forest onto the beach.
You can follow the coast north across many wilderness camp sites all of the way up to Third Beach. If you hike north you will absolutely need a tide chart. There are many places that are completely impassable without going overland when tides are high, including the first ford just north of the mouth of the Hoh River.
Stars were incredible!
