Anacortes Community Forest Lands - Big Beaver Pond — Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020

Puget Sound and Islands > Whidbey Island
Big Beaver Pond from Trail #123-- August 2019
From #108 south of #123 junction I saw a mound of twigs over mud next to a water hole.--Is this a beaver dam for real? On the way back I noticed the stripping of bark at the base of a nearby conifer.--that looked like beaver activity for sure. (Sorry no photo...next time.) My route to see dams and pond: 37th st parking to service road a short distance, right onto #108, left onto #123, left onto #108, left onto #104, left onto 102, left onto 106. Attached is the pdf for the trail map. If you plan to hike around Cranberry Lake: Though it is nice to be at waters edge, the hiking is easier on the higher elevation trails. The parking area described in WTA's main description i.e. 37th Street location from "D ave", is the best place to park if you want to hike around the lake as well as visit the beaver ponds and dams. (As long as you are not planning to bring a boat). Parking at the north end of the lake is potholed, dirty and dusty. 6 cars in parking area at 6pm and only mine at 8:40pm.
