Berkeley Park, Burroughs Mountain — Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River
Mt. Rainier

Started out from the Sunrise parking lot at about 6:15 AM. The parking lot was about 1/4 full. Took the trail up to Frozen Lake, then down to Berkeley Park. The flowers are at full peak along the trail to Berkeley. Headed back up to Frozen Lake and headed up to 2nd Burroughs. Stopped there for a bit and then headed out to 3rd Burroughs. Small patches of snow to cross but nothing was too difficult.

After resting for a bit on 3rd  Burroughs, headed back via Burroughs Mountain Trail then switched to Wonderland then Sunrise Rim back to the car.

When leaving, the parking lot was full and there was a line of about 50 cars waiting to get in at the entrance station.

Details:

  • 13.92 miles roundtrip
  • 3,413ft elevation gain
  • 5hr 30 minutes (including stops)
  • 50% of the people were wearing masks

Creatures Encountered:

  • Marmots
  • Chipmunks
  • Ground Squirrels
  • Elk
  • Mountain Goats
  • Black Fox
  • Pika
  • Ptarmigan
