Trip Report

Wiley Slough - Fir Island — Saturday, Jul. 18, 2020

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area

Hiking is crazy in the mountains on Saturdays, but Wiley Slough just after sunrise is quite pleasant...

I stopped at English Boom and watched the sunrise before going to Wiley Slough.  It was worth the stop.

The birds were active early.  I saw Kingfishers, Herons, Eagles, Hawks, young Doves, ducks, shore birds, and more.  Two adult and two fledgling eagles flew to their nest at the same time.  The fledglings are about ready to leave home.

Herons are common, but with great light, they look extraordinary.

A couple of flower shots are included for color contrast.

Wiley Slough is always interesting, especially on a Saturday morning during the summer.
