I wasn't actually able to do this hike from the Falls Creek Trailhead, as when I got to the start of the road a sign indicated it was closed for repairs from 7/2 to 8/2. I had to re-route to the Billy Goat Trailhead. Wanted to leave an FYI for others.
The forest service page does say the area is "Unreachable".
