We wanted to find a good short trail for my 6 month old berner puppy’s first hike, so this fit the bill! The road to the trailhead is no joke, I wouldn’t even consider it if you have less clearance than a Subaru Forester (though my Forester did great). The hike up is fairly muddy but pretty straightforward. At the lake you can either go to the right to a nearby beach area, or go to the left across the logs where there are some campsites. This is a major bang for the buck, just 2 miles round trip with 440 ft gain but the views were excellent. The bugs here weren’t horrible but I was definitely happy to have bug spray.
