Elbo Creek — Friday, Jul. 3, 2020

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
last rhodies

We hiked on a cloudy day, but no rain. The trail is mostly in excellent condition. There's 6-7 small blowdowns across the trail, but none of them present a serous obstacle. At about 2 miles, the trail turns left, off the earlier graded trail, and climbs more steeply for a time. This part of the trail is a lower standard, and a bit muddy in spots, but easy to follow. We hit the upper road, followed that for half a mile or so, but were in the clouds with no possibility of views, so turned around.

This trail has a reputation for unusual saprophytic plants, and did not disappoint. We saw several species along the trail, as well as a few last Rhodies in bloom. We saw only 5 other hikers on a busy day - this is a good conditioning hike and avoids the crowds at better known trails.
